Criminal proceedings against Lord Janner over sex abuse charges will be dropped because of his death, a judge at the Old Bailey has ruled.
Lord Janner was accused of 22 counts of sex offences against boys dating back to the 1960s.
His family strongly denied the allegations.
A High Court judge had declared Lord Janner unfit to stand trial because he suffered from dementia. A trial of facts – where a jury decides whether the defendant committed the offences, but where there can be no guilty verdict and no sentence – was expected to take place in April.
Lord Janner died aged 87 in December. A former Board of Deputies president, from 1978-84, and long-serving MP, he was a leading figure in Anglo-Jewry for more than 40 years.
