A family has donated £5,000 to buy life-saving equipment for Watford Hospital as a thank you for caring for their terminally ill mother.

The Jane Kasler Foundation donated the money which will go towards a new defibrillator for the Hertfordshire hospital’s intensive care unit.

Giorgina Kasler set up the foundation after her mother Jane died from ovarian cancer at the age of 49.

Ms Kasler, who is a member of Bushey United Synagogue, said: “We wanted to give something back to thank them for all their hard work and dedication.

“The care my mum got was incredible. The doctors were able to extend her life so she could see me graduate.”

The foundation has raised over £20,000 through events such as the London Marathon and a ladies brunch, since it was established in 2013.

Watford ICU sees an average of 900 adult patients every year. The unit’s matron, Sarah Lafbery, said: “The equipment will be a huge benefit to a great number of our patients in the future.”
