The London School of Jewish Studies’ Ofsted ranking for its teacher- training courses has dropped from “outstanding” to “good” after its first inspection in five years.
Inspectors reported that leaders were passionate about preparing trainees for a career in education, had high expectations and had developed an ambitious curriculum, while students felt “well-supported” by tutors.
But they found that approaches to mentoring were “not consistently applied across all subjects and
phases”.
Joanne Greenaway, LSJS chief executive, said the college was “absolutely delighted by the outcome, given the current climate in relation to Ofsted and the changes in the framework for teacher-training providers”.
Since 2018, Ofsted’s criteria were “all different and far more rigorous and within that context, we are grateful that the huge improvements in the quality of our initial teacher training over the last three years have been acknowledged”, she said.
