Spencer Lewis, the executive headteacher of the Yavneh College Academy Trust in Borehamwood, has been shortlisted as secondary head of the year in the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
One of the longest serving heads in the Jewish sector, he is in his 12th year in charge of Yavneh following six years as head of King Solomon High School in Redbridge.
In an announcement the school said, “The nomination reflects the success of Yavneh College, which consistently ranks among the highest attaining non-selective schools in the country. Academic success is underpinned by Jewish values, encapsulated in the school motto of Olam Chesed Yibaneh, ‘A world built on kindness’”.
In a JC interview, he remarked, “There are interesting jobs in education, but there’s nothing like headship.”
