Your chance to choose who wins the Gefiltefest Food Awards 2013

On May 19 2013, the fourth Gefiltefest will take place at Ivy House, in north London, home of the London Jewish Cultural Centre.

Founder Michael Leventhal is anticipating a record turnout this year for the food festival which covers almost every aspect of Jewish cuisine.
Leventhal founded the festival in 2010 when it was attended by just 200 people. He was puzzled that no annual celebration of the Jewish fascination with food existed already. It seemed an obvious addition to the communal calendar.

“Everyone eats. And Jews probably think about food more than most: it is central to Judaism,” he says.
Running alongside the festival are the Gefiltefest awards which cover a wide range of food categories and are voted for by the public and announced on the day.

They seek to recognise the best kosher foods, restaurants and retailers.
Leventhal says the competition has attracted more interest each year. “We are expecting more than 30,000 people to place their vote this time round.”

This year the awards will be run in partnership with the JC.

As well as the prizes voted for by the public, a further set of awards will also be made on the day of the festival, after a blind tasting of bagels, challah and cheesecake by an expert panel, including JC food editor Victoria Prever.
