Spaghetti hoops and microwave meals are not on the menu in Ben Nathan's kitchen.
The Jewish student and his six housemates are making their mothers proud after setting up a food blog on social media photo-sharing site Instagram, featuring meals they have cooked themselves.
The friends' account has attracted more than 1,000 followers since Mr Nathan launched it last October.
The 20-year-old said: "It started as a bit of a joke, but became quite big."
Their "Chefs of Coronation" blog is named after the street where they live in Birmingham's Selly Oak area.
Mr Nathan, a business management student at Birmingham University, has been interested in cooking since he was a boy and makes desserts for family Friday-night dinners.
The second year students became friends as freshers when cooking for them constituted defrosting meals their mothers had sent them from home.
"Last year I would always rely on my mum for meals," Mr Nathan said.
All seven housemates cook to varying standards, making mainly meat dishes using kosher goods bought from the deli shop at Birmingham Central Synagogue. They post photographs of their culinary creations with a focus on presentation and healthy diets.
Housemate Ollie Gordon said: "We want to put a message out there, to show fellow students that you can eat well and healthily at university with readily-available food."
Thanks to the popularity of the pictures, the students have found themselves being asked for cooking advice from friends.
But when asked who they turn to for help, Mr Nathan said: "You will frequently hear someone on the phone to their mum asking for cooking advice. I call home to say, I've got this meat how do I cook it? Mums know best after all."
The housemates are yet to attempt a full Shabbat dinner, and their mothers may be shocked to learn that their sons buy their chicken soup ready made.
