Children teach parents better eating habits, says celebrity chef

articlemain

The tables have turned.

Children are now scolding their parents about healthy eating as a result of better food education in schools, according to a study by celebrity chef Annabel Karmel .

And Ms Karmel, a member of West London Synagogue, believes that keeping kosher is no excuse for stocking up on stodgy goods.

She told the JC: “I believe that it’s no harder for observant Jews to eat [healthily] because fruit and vegetables are kosher and so are many types of fish.

“Chicken soup and brisket are also healthy foods along with boiled gefilte fish and chopped Israeli salad.

“In order to stay healthy, they will need to limit certain traditional foods like potato latkes, kneidlach, bourekas, matzah brei and lokshen pudding.”

According to Ms Karmel’s study, one in five parents are being scolded by their children for dishing up unhealthy meals at home.

The TV chef, from St John’s Wood in north-west London, has also found that children are more willing to try healthy food like olives, avocado and brussel sprouts – while their parents steer clear.
