The issue that I am reading right now is 4^th April 1924 – Passover time. Not very timely, considering it is almost December, but absorbing nonetheless.

An advert catches my eye…

On page 28 there is a small but interesting quote from George Bernard Shaw:

Mr George Bernard Shaw’s new play, ‘Saint Joan’, contains a notable epigram on the Jews. It runs thus: “The Jews generally give value. They make you pay; but they deliver the goods. In my experience the men who want something for nothing are invariably Christians.”

And a correction appears:

THE TUSCAN KASHER RESTAURANT. In the advertisement of this restaurant printed in our last issue, it was stated that during Passover, special breakfasts, luncheons, teas, dinners and suppers would be served on each day from 8pm to 12 midnight. It should have been 8am to 12 mindnight.

Who knew that they had Tuscan kosher restaurants in 1924?

Another little news article mentions something ‘on the side’ that I thought worthy of bold italics:

New Arab Outrages in Palestine.

Arabs have attacked near Nabios the Jewish journalist, Mr. Tetransky, and his wife, who is an actress. Mr. Tetransky was killed, and Mrs. Tetransky was seriously wounded. The deceased and his wife were on a world tour on foot. They had already walked across Switzerland, France, Spain, Morocco, Tunis, Algeria, and Egypt. Two Arabs have been arrested in connection with the outrage.

They walked so far. What an anti-climax (and, of-course, a tragedy…)

And in case you still want to travel to the place where this unfortunate couple were attacked, here is someone who wants to go with you:

I’m happy to hear that the gentleman undertaking the journey is of a happy disposition. I wouldn’t travel with anyone else!

And finally, I will end with this cryptic reply by the author of the children’s section, Young Israel, to one Miriam Cohen from Jaffa:

Tell ‘Eyes’ that the busiest people always find time for everything. It is usually the lazy ones who have no leisure.
