A Jewish family in Paris was attacked and robbed because of their religion, an antisemitism watchdog has confirmed.
The family, who own a jewellery shop in Paris, were attacked and tied up by three masked men of African descent holding handguns on Wednesday morning.
The son was said to suffer from “serious injuries” and was treated in hospital along with his parents.
The National Bureau for Vigilance Against Antisemitism (BNVCA) said the attackers targeted the family home in Le Blanc-Mesnil, in Paris’s north-east suburbs, because the family was Jewish and believed they were rich.
They stole the family’s Mercedes car, £1,750 in cash and keys to the shop in the 10th district.
A spokesman for the BNVCA said antisemitic stereotypes of “Jews and money” motivated the attack.
The SPCJ, the French Jewish security service, reported that antisemitic incidents in France were up by 84 per cent in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the same period last year.
