Palestinians carried out five stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and the West Bank on Saturday, Israeli authorities have said.

Four of the attackers were killed.

In Jerusalem, a police spokesperson said a 16-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed by officers after he tried to stab them.

At a checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank, a policeman escaped uninjured after a Palestinian attempted to stab him. The attacker was shot and wounded, but was killed after pulling out a second knife when the officer approached to treat him.

Three other stabbing attacks took place in the West Bank city of Hebron.

Israel military sources said an Israeli member of the public shot and killed a Palestinian who tried to stab him.

Police said a Palestinian woman injured a female officer before being shot dead by the officer.

In the third incident, a soldier was injured. His attacker was shot and wounded.

Meanwhile, thousands of Israeli Jews and Arabs held a rally in Jerusalem calling for an end to the violence.
