A Palestinian knifeman wearing a press vest has been shot after stabbing an Israeli soldier in the West Bank.
The attacker was shot and killed by other troops in Kiryat Arba after wounding the soldier, who was standing metres away from a protest.
An Israeli Defence Forces spokesperson said that the assailant was “disguised as [a] news photographer. Soldier moderately wounded. Assailant shot on site”.
The victim was evacuated for emergency medical care.
The Foreign Press Association issued a statement condemning the attack on the soldier.
It said: “The FPA utterly deplores this violation of press privilege and call on local Palestinian media organisations to immediately verify all media credentials to ensure there are no violations.
“The FPA represents the foreign media working in Israel and the Palestinian Territories and tightly restricts the issuance of FPA credentials.”
The organisation also said that on Wednesday night a cameraman for a French television station was “pushed to the ground, kicked and beaten” by IDF troops while reporting in Jerusalem.
