French comedian Dieudonné told a French court today that he condemned last month’s Paris attacks “without any ambiguity”.
The controversial comedian was on trial for condoning terrorism for a comment posted on social media.
Dieudonné was arrested on January 14 for saying in a video clip “I feel like Charlie Coulibaly”, a play on the Je Suis Charlie hashtag and the name of the gunman who killed four Jews at Hyper Cacher supermarket in Paris last month.
"Of course I condemn the attacks without any restraint and without any ambiguity," Dieudonné told the court in Paris.
The comedian has caused controversy for popularising the Nazi-like “quenelle” gesture and has previously had shows banned for their antisemitic content.
If found guilty, Dieudonné faces up to seven years in prison and a €100,000 fine.
