Arrests over latest 'antisemitic' attack in France

articlemain

Three men have been arrested in France in connection with an alleged antisemitic attack on a Jewish teenager in a Paris suburb.

The 18-year-old was walking in the street on Friday when he was set upon by three men who stole his phone and shouted antisemitic abuse at him.

Following the attack in the Sarcelles suburb, the French Interior Minister visited local Jewish leaders at the Great Synagogue to reassure the community.

Manuel Valls said he was "beside [the community] in these trying times".

The incident was the latest in a string of anti-Jewish incidents in recent months. According to the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive, there have been more than 140 antisemitic incidents across France reported since a gunman killed four people outside a Jewish school in Toulouse in March.

At the start of May three men wearing kippot were subjected to a verbal and physical attack while on their way to synagogue in Lyon.
