World Jewish Relief has launched an emergency appeal to help millions of starving children in East Africa.
More than 16 million people in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan need food, water and medical treatment according to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
Paul Anticoni, World Jewish Relief’s chief executive, said: “This is the worst food security situation the world has seen for decades.
“With the message of Purim – giving gifts to the poor – still in our ears, we are calling on our community to respond generously as I know they always do.
“We are proud to be the Jewish community’s response to international disasters and, as ever, we will ensure that supporters’ donations reach the most vulnerable people in this crisis.”
Drought, poor rains and conflict have ruined harvests leaving millions in the region malnourished and in need medical support.
The charity said it will work with its partners on the ground to ensure help reaches the most vulnerable people.
