"Always the bridesmaid, never the bride" is usually seen as a lament - but in the case of Serena Williams' recent wedding, the bridesmaids may have hit the jackpot in terms of their dresses.

Tennis star Williams married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian last week in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress, but her seven bridesmaids - including her sister Venus, and also the mother of the bride - wore dresses by Israel’s premiere couture bridal designer, Galia Lahav.

The bespoke gowns were made in Tel Aviv and designed to fit in with the couple's Beauty and the Beast theme,in different shades of cream, white and off-white.

Williams' friend and bridesmaid Val Vogt, told Vogue that Lahav "talked to all of us and just kind of let us have creative control as to what dress fit our personality. And then she approved it, of course!”

The exclusive wedding took place in New Orleans, and guests included Kim Kardashian, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Beyoncé.
