Sacha Baron Cohen has come to the rescue of six Czech tourists who got into hot water for wearing Borat-style mankinis

The men donned the revealing outfits while on holiday in Kazakhstan. Local police failed to see the joke and fined them 22,500 Tenge (around £50) each for indecency and “minor hooliganism”.

But Baron Cohen, who created the character of the mankini-wearing Borat in a 2006 comedy film, said he would cover the fines.

The Jewish actor and comedian wrote on Facebook: "To my Czech mates who were arrested. Send me your details and proof that it was you, and I'll pay your fine".

Baron Cohen's movie, Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, followed the character of journalist Borat Sagdiyev, who appears in one scene dressed in a skimpy bright green one-piece.

At the time, Kazakhstan banned the film.
