Neo-Nazis planning anti-Shomrim demonstration for Finchley

A white supremacist group has said it is planning a new demonstration to oppose a Jewish volunteer security organisation.

The New Dawn Party, which attended last Saturday’s neo-Nazi demonstration in central London , has revealed that it will run a protest opposing the Shomrim group in Finchley, north London, in September.

Short protests in Golders Green and other areas will precede the main rally, the group said.

On its Facebook page, the New Dawn Party wrote: “The next liaised 'Oppose the Shomrim' demo will take place in September in Finchley. Before that will be flash demos in several locations including Golders Green.”

Finchley is home to one of the largest Jewish populations in Britain and the protest threatens to clash with the High Holy Days although its exact date is not known.

Community Security Trust communications director Mark Gardner said his organisation was aware of the planned protest, which far-right activist Eddie Stampton claims to be organising. He was behind last week’s demonstration.

Mr Gardner said: “As in the case of Golders Green and July 4, CST, the Board of Deputies, London Jewish Forum and Jewish Leadership Council will work together as required.

“We have already liaised with the Metropolitan Police, Home Office and the Department of Communities and Local Government regarding this potential next demonstration and we will continue to monitor the situation very closely indeed.

“The Golders Green Together initiative developed strong cross-communal alliances and these will be built upon if required.”

Last week’s protest was moved from Golders Green to Whitehall by police.
