Lord Alan Sugar has revealed two siblings died of coronavirus within the space of two weeks.
The 73-year-old Apprentice star, whose brother Derek died this month after contracting the virus, confirmed his sister’s death in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“My eldest sister Shirley passed away today at the age of 88,” he tweeted. “She had been sick for a while but I guess Covid got her in the end to join our brother Derek who passed two weeks ago.”
Lord Sugar also paid tribute to his “long suffering brother”, Derek, on 15 December, adding that he was “another victim of Covid” and had underlying health issues.
“He was a lifetime passionate Spurs supporter. I will never forget my sister in law joking with me thanking me for buying him the club. ‘A sad day for us all in the family,” he wrote.
As of Tuesday, a total of 53,135 new cases were reported in the UK in addition to 414 more deaths within 28 days of a positive test.
PM Boris Johnson said the UK would “now move to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible”’ after the country approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on Wednesday.
