Students and teachers at JFS were shocked and saddened after the sudden death of a popular sixth-former pupil yesterday.

Debby Lipkin, executive headteacher, wrote of her “profound sadness” at the news of the death of Joel Ingram, who was in Year 13.

In a letter sent to parents of sixth-form pupils at the north-west London Jewish school, she added: “This has obviously come as a tremendous shock to the entire JFS community and our thoughts are with his family.

“Joel was an active member of our Sixth Form and his death has understandably impacted the entire school.”

Senior staff visited every Sixth Form lesson this morning to inform pupils and offer support.

Bereavement counsellors from the Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service (JBCS) were on hand to console students and work alongside staff, the school counsellor and Rabbi Daniel Epstein, who is a governor at the school. Parents were also encouraged to contact the school with any specific concerns or worries.

Mr Ingram was a member of the school’s first-XI football team and lived in Mill Hill. Mrs Lipkin said that she was in touch with his family and would keep students informed about details for his funeral.
