Travellers at Ben Gurion Airport A Palestinian man was shot on Sunday after he crashed into a checkpoint at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.

It comes after two similar incidents over the past fortnight.

The suspect allegedly travelled into Israel from the West Bank and stole the vehicle used in the crash. Once at the airport, the driver sped toward the security checkpoint and rammed it into it, then driving the car on the wrong side of the road toward the terminal building.

The suspect received minor wounds when airport security began to fire shots and was arrested. The Israel Airports Authority said in a statement that the “vehicle was stopped en route to Terminal 3,” and stressed that “the incident is under investigation.”

Members of the public in Terminal 3 were ordered to lie on the ground and remain still while security staff pursued the suspect.

Ben Gurion’s busiest departure terminal, Terminal 3 is located around two miles from the airport’s entrance checkpoint.

In September 2021, another Palestinian man breached the Ben Gurion Airport checkpoint, also with a stolen car. A security guard then shot at the vehicle, leading the 35-year-old West Bank resident to abandon the scene. He was subsequently arrested after attempting to hide in a petrol station nearby.
