A 16 year-old girl who was stabbed at the Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade on Thursday has died from her injuries.

Shira Banki was one of six people attacked by an ultra-Orthodox man at the parade . She was critically wounded during the stabbing rampage of Yishai Schlissel, and succumbed to her wounds on Sunday after a three-day battle. Her family have said they will be donating her organs.

Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, sent his condolences to Ms Banki's family. He said: "Shira was murdered because she courageously supported the principle that every person is entitled to live their life in dignity and safety".

He added in a statement: "We won't let the despicable murderer undermine the fundamental values upon which Israeli society is based".

Mr Schlissel was recently released from a ten-year prison sentence after committing a similar attack at a Gay Pride event in 2005. He was captured at the scene of the stabbings on Thursday and is currently being held in police custody.

It has been announced that the Knesset will hold a special session on Tuesday to discuss the events of last week and the weekend, including the stabbing and the arson attack on a Palestinian home that killed a baby on Friday.

Shira Banki was a talented musician. Listen to her play the Berkovich Concerto in C. Part 1 at the Bet Hakerem music school six years ago.
