Budget travellers will no doubt be celebrating Ryanair’s announcement that it will soon be flying to Eilat – the first time the airline has run routes to Israel.
But before you pack the sunscreen, there is a catch: it will only be flying from Hungary, Lithuania and Poland.
In an announcement on Tuesday, the Irish airline said that its three new routes – starting from November this year - will travel twice a week from Budapest, Kaunas and Krakow. It is thought the flights will carry around 40,000 passengers a year.
“We are continuing to negotiate with the Israeli authorities and we look forward to growing our Israeli route network in the future,” said the company’s chief commercial officer David O’Brien.
A pit-stop in eastern Europe may not be ideal, but the bargain may be too good to ignore. Prices from Budapest, Kaunas and Krakow to Eilat Ovda airport are expected to start at £21.99.
Luckily for British passengers, Ryanair flies direct to all three cities from Stansted airport.
