Five Palestinians killed during clashes with Israeli forces near Gaza border

Reports of five Palestinians killed and nearly 20 wounded, with the death toll rising, during clashes with Israeli forces near the Gaza border fence, as the IDF opened fire on protesters on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hamas has said the that ongoing unrest is a third Intifada: "We call for escalating and deepening the intifada," AFP quotes Hamas Gaza-based leader Ismail Haniyeh as saying, after Friday prayers.

A security guard who an Arab-Israeli woman attempted to stab shot her, saving those inside the Afula central bus station. The guard was unharmed, while the attacker was wounded, as shown in the video below.

Earlier today, an Israeli policeman was stabbed by a Palestinian in Kiryat Arba. Police shot and killed the terrorist at the scene. This brings the total number of Israelis wounded in stabbing attacks over the past 24 hours up to ten.

A 14-year-old Charedi boy has been stabbed in an attack on Shaul Hanavi Street in Jerusalem. He was lightly injured. The attacker was arrested at the scene.

This morning, four Arabs were stabbed by a Jewish man in the city of Dimona - the first such attack since the latest wave of bloodshed began.

Two were moderately wounded and two other victims were being treated for light wounds, according to first-aid service Magen David Adom.

Three of the victims were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in nearby Beersheva.

Police arrested the suspected stabber at a nearby school. Reports say that the attacker is a 17 year-old local man.

According to Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld, the man, who has a criminal record, carried out the attacks "in revenge" for the attacks that have targeted Jews this week .

Dimona’s mayor, Benny Biton, said that three of the victims were municipal employees. Mr Biton expressed sorrow and called on residents to “exercise restraint” in the wake of the attack.

Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the stabbings today. A statement released by his office says: "Netanyahu strongly condemns the attack on innocent Arabs. Israel is a nation of law and order. We will bring to justice anyone who engages in violence and breaks the law."

The UK Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond released a statement condemning the violence in Israel over the past few days.

He said: "I continue to be deeply concerned by violent clashes across the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel which have resulted in a number of deaths and hundreds of injuries.

"Every Israeli and Palestinian has the right to live in peace and security. We understand, and share, the deep frustration on all sides at the lack of progress on the Middle East Peace Process. The current violence underlines that a just and lasting resolution that ends the occupation and delivers peace for both Israelis and Palestinians is long overdue."
