Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has written a prayer to be recited during the Shabbat morning service in congregations tomorrow following the outbreak of violence in Israel.
It asks God to “bring tranquility to Your holy land so that all will live securely with no one to bring terror into their lives”.
In a letter to his rabbis, he said, “With each day that passes, we hear of yet further tragedy in Israel - more violence and more loss of innocent life. In this world of mass, consumerist media, one terrorist attack that takes ten lives might be featured in the international press but ten terrorist attacks that each take one life, will too often be met with silence or indifference. But as Jews, with our deep and enduring love for the State of Israel, we cannot be silent.
“We abhor the acts of murder carried out against our brethren in Israel and condemn in the strongest terms, those individuals who seek to answer terror with terror.”
