Two fire crews took an hour to free a 10-year-old girl who became trapped between a wall and a metal storage container at an independent Manchester primary school.

The Beis Rochel pupil was wedged tightly when the emergency services arrived.

Eight firemen used specialist airbags to widen the gap between the structures, allowing the girl to be released. A trauma technician, usually deployed with road accident victims, was on the scene to calm the pupil.

A fire service representative said the girl was conscious and breathing throughout the ordeal. “The container had to be emptied of its contents before firemen could rescue her. The girl was freed after an hour without injury. It was Hatzola [the Jewish emergency assistance group] who called,
an organisation we work very closely with.”
