Friends of JFS pupil Joel Ingram, who died suddenly last month, have organised a charity football match in his memory which kicks-off tonight at 6.30 at the Maccabi London Lions ground in Rowley Lane, Barnet.
The match has been arranged by his close friends and will feature teams comprised of his peers. The initiative has already raised more than £9,000 for YoungMinds, a UK charity working to improve the emotional well-being and mental health of young people. Those donating more than £20 are entered into a raffle for a signed Gareth Bale shirt.
“We really hope you can all make it to the match," the organisers say. "It will be a great occasion, to commemorate the life of such a great son, brother, classmate and friend.”
JFS governor Rabbi Daniel Epstein said: “I think the students are extraordinary and I’m very proud of them. They are tremendously resilient but also vulnerable to admit that they need to talk about difficult things.
“It's a very powerful statement about how they understand that looking after others, as well as themselves, is the key to self-worth in the sense that you are never alone."
