On pole in Manchester

articlemain

The first poles for what will be the UK’s largest eruv were erected in north Manchester this week.

Areas of Salford, Manchester and Bury will be covered by the religious boundary, which will have a 13-mile circumference. Three-quarters of the eruv is formed by existing structures or buildings.

Eruv committee member Gigi Mechlowitz said a fundraising drive had generated £220,000 of the £300,000 required.

The committee has set up a website to receive donations and is also asking supporters to commit £2 per week to fund maintenance when the eruv is operational, hopefully from September.
