More houses are to be covered by the Manchester eruv.
Work on the religious boundary is currently concentrated on walls and fences in the boroughs of Salford, Bury and Manchester. But talks are under way with Salford planners to relocate a number of eruv poles to include an 80-property housing estate being constructed in the largely Charedi area of Leicester Road.
Further minor boundary changes in Higher Prestwich will mean the potential incorporation of a number of extra roads after discussions with Bury Council.
Eruv committee member Gigi Mechlowitz said a major drive for the £300,000 needed for the project would start in around three months, but pledges had already been received from donors.
“We are doing much better than expected for funding because demand for the eruv is so large,” he said. “We still need a lot of money, but support has been very good from all sections of the community. We are also extremely grateful to local authorities for helping us with this historic project.”
