Northern GCSE stars were headed by Manchester Mesivta's Simcha Brownson, 15, who gained 10 A*s and three As. Another Mesivta high achiever was Saul Yardley, who passed 12 subjects at A* and A grade.
Mesivta said it was a "bumper year" for pupils with 98 per cent scoring all their subjects at A*-C in the strictly Orthodox school's express stream, in which many students sit GCSEs at 15 so as to start yeshivah studies at 16.
Headteacher Phaivish Pink pointed out: "These boys devoted their mornings to learning Limmudei Kodesh. It gave them the ability to concentrate, which helped their secular studies."
Manchester King David High's Aviva Caller achieved 10 A*s among her 13 passes. Adina Myers, Elliot Singer, Rafi Dover, Daniel Rabinowitz and Gideon Kershner gained 12 GSCE's, with at least 10 As. Ninety-eight per cent of candidates gained at least five A*-C grades and over half of all grades were A* and As.
At Liverpool's King David High, 84 per cent of pupils gained five or more A-C grades.
Grammar School at Leeds pupil Sam Levi scored 9 A*s and one A. Classmate Joseph Jackson gained seven A*s and four As.
Sophie Drazen, Josh Masser, Victoria Nabarro and Katie Granthan all received seven A*s with three A grades and Joshua Green gained six A*s and three As.
