New Year robberies in Salford

articlemain

It was an unhappy New Year for a number of Salford families who were victims of nocturnal burglars.

Robbers targeted at least four Jewish homes on the second night of the festival, making off with thousands of pounds’ worth of jewellery and electrical goods. One victim, Chaim Ustraykh from Broughton Park, woke to discover his bedroom door open — and that every drawer, and a bedside table inches from where he slept, had been disturbed.

“They took my wife’s wedding and engagement rings, iPods and computers with our wedding photos on. We have only been married a year-and-a-half.

“All I’ve got left is a few pictures in frames,” Mr Ustraykh added. “They took our house keys, which left us pretty shaken up. I had to come back from shul to allow the forensics team into our flat.”

A spokesperson for the Charedi volunteer Broughton Park Citizens’ Patrol was “aware of a number of incidents. We have asked the local police to put on extra patrols.”
