Sarah Silverman, the American actress and comedian, has responded to a hate-filled antisemitic attack on her by a pastor of a Baptist church in Florida by sharing it and saying: “If I get murdered, start here”.
In a sermon given by Adam Fannin of Stedfast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, he called Ms Silverman a “witch”, “jezebel” and a “God-hating whore of Zionism.”
“I hope that God breaks her teeth out and she dies,” he continued. “She is a wicked person and she is like the perfect representation of religious Judaism.”
Ms Silverman has said in the past that she is a secular Jew, as she is agnostic but comes from a Jewish family. Her sister is a Rabbi.
Ms Silverman retweeted a clip of the sermon, with the caption: “If I get murdered, start here”.
Mr Fannin has previously used sermons to attack Judaism. In a sermon last year he said the Talmud was “not a reliable source” and that Chanukah was “a deception” and a “starter drug to get you interested into [sic] the Hebrew roots movement.”
The Stedfast Baptist Church website lists “Racism/Zionism – Jew Worship (Unconditional Israel Support)” as a ‘false doctrine’. It also claims that all fornication is a sin, and that life begins at conception.
In follow-up tweets, Ms Silverman described the sermon as “incitements of violence based on lies and the disingenuous re-framings of truth”, adding “that’s America today.”
