Chief Rabbi: How the successor will be picked

Representative group: up to 250 people, half board chairmen and half women members, of synagogues and representatives of schools under Chief Rabbinate. They will be asked to approve recruitment procedure but have no say over choice of candidate.

Consulting group: 22 people, comprising trustees of Chief Rabbinate Trust, United Synagogue officers, four US women's representatives and five selected members of representative group. Will have power to ratify candidate.

Working group: eight members – president, a vice-president and a treasurer from the US, two US women's representatives, the two immediate past presidents of the US and one representative of non-US communities. They will interview candidates and select the next Chief Rabbi.
