A catering company in Radlett has joined dozens of businesses across the country in offering to help feed children during the school holidays.
Adam Nathan, 32, of Adam Nathan Catering, said several families and one school had already got in touch since his firm made the announcement on social media on Thursday.
“We ended up getting loads of shares, on Facebook especially,” said Mr Nathan, whose move was sparked by Marcus Rashford’s recent social media push.
The Manchester United star has been retweeting local businesses pledging to help after MPs voted against extending the meal voucher scheme to outside term time earlier last week.
Mr Rashford, 22, who was made an MBE earlier this month, successfully campaigned for free school meals to be provided during the summer holidays.
Adam Nathan Catering, which fed NHS staff at the start of the pandemic, expects to provide around 300 meals in the next week.
“We’re going to try and help as many people as we can,” Mr Nathan said.
The past year, he said, has been “a ridiculously hard year for everyone” and the hospitality industry has shown it will “bend over backwards to help anyone.”
He also praised the Jewish community’s response to the pandemic. “Our community has always done a brilliant job of helping wherever they can and that’s been clear over the pandemic.
“If you see what synagogues and what other people in the Jewish hospitality industry are doing, people have made fantastic efforts to help where we can.”
