Board of Deputies President Marie Van Zyl is set to meet BBC director Tim Davie in the New Year to address the numerous complaints over the BBC’s reporting of an antisemitic incident in Oxford Street earlier this month.
In the original report on the incident, The BBC alleged that multiple slurs could be heard from inside a bus where Jewish teenagers were hiding from antisemitic abuse.
Following contact from The JC, the web story was amended to reflect the BBC’s belief that one slur could be heard, and this accusation was repeated on BBC London broadcast the day after the incident came to light.
A spokesperson from The BBC confirmed to The JC that they believed that the words ‘Dirty Muslims’ could be heard from the occupants of the bus.
A sound professional contacted by the JC said that the audio was too unclear for any such claims to be made.
Last week, the CAA led a protest at Broadcasting House and demanded an apology from the broadcaster.
According to the Jewish News, Ms. Van Zyle will call on The BBC director General to apologise to the community.
The BBC has been reached for comment.
