There are plenty of talented teenage musicians, but being able to write music is a rarer skill.

Fourteen-year-old cellist Anoushka Sharp is already so accomplished as a composer that her first concerto is to be performed this Sunday at the Schott’s Music venue in central London. “I was really surprised that I was able to do it,” said Anoushka, who was named
Emunah Young Musician of the Year in 2012.

“I’ve had a lot of experience improvising on the cello and piano, and also play chamber music, so I find it easy to imagine the chords.

“But it is often the music that tells me where it wants to go.”

The North London Collegiate School pupil belongs to a musical family. Her brother Amos won the Emunah prize in 2013, and sister Aviva was a finalist this year.
