MGBSFL DIVISION TWO
WEST HAMDILLAH 1 FC TEAM 3
With a couple of fresh faces drafted in over the winter break, West Hamdillah had a new-look side to take on league leaders FC Team.
Hamdillah started slowly as the new boys took time to gel with the old guard and it was FC Team who scored first.
However, Hamdillah equalised against the run of play when captain Ben Mandell, their "marquee signing" from the Hertswood Vale, scored a wonderful free-kick to the top corner. This was his fourth goal of the season, and third since joining Hamdillah.
There was little to separate the sides, with both creating good openings However, FC Team, who featured a strong forward line including Connor Perl, Jonny Haik and top-scorer Richard Salmon, as well as Young made it 2-1 before adding a third on the stroke of full-time.
Reflecting on the match, FC Team player-manager Mitch Young told JC Sport: “We are happy to get the win first and foremost.
"However, he believes there is room for improvement from the table-toppers, and said: "We are disappointed not to have scored more goals. On another day this would have been double figures but our strikers will be having nightmares after this. Another person who should be having nightmares is the referee."
Looking ahead to the run-in, Young went on to say: "We have six games to go and we are just focused on doing everything we can to win each game.
"We need to take the positives from this game and look forward to Scrabble next week."
He finished by praising the home side and said: "Hamdilllah put in a committed performance. Their players never gave up we wish them well."
