Banana 'ice cream' with halva and melted chocolate

Frozen bananas make the best 'ice cream' - especially when you mix in chunks of nutty halva

This is my favourite magic trick in the kitchen: creamy ice cream made with just bananas! The other ingredients are added just for fun to make a less sugary ice cream sundae. Start this the day before you want to serve it so you can freeze the bananas.

  • Peel the bananas and cut into 3cm slices and place in a freezer bag or zip lock containers and freeze until solid - around 4 to 6 hours, or overnight if you have time.
  • Place the banana chips in a food processor and process until fully ground. Set aside.
  • Melt the dark chocolate and leave to cool slightly.
  • Remove the bananas 5-10 minutes before processing to thaw slightly.
  • Place the bananas in the food processor and blitz. You will have to stop every so often and scrape down the sides.
  • Watch as the bananas turn into ice-cream. It should take approximately 3 minutes but the mixture will eventually turn into a thick and creamy, ice-cream-like dessert.
  • Scoop out into a large bowl and fold in the chopped halva.Serve at once but if not serving immediately, freeze until ready to serve.
  • Serve drizzled with melted chocolate and sprinkled with the ground banana chips.
Allow time for freezing
