Still looking for your forever honey cake recipe? Need a vegan variation? We got your bake ...

1. The Vegan One

Denise Phillips has produced a vegan honey cake that is also filled with fruits. Date honey - silan - replaces the bee version, and it's filled with sticky, dried figs and crunchy pistachio nuts.

2. The Perfect Pud:

Sharon Lurie makes muffins out of her honey cake mix for tasty individual portions that can be served up any time. Top with her tahina and halva ice cream and you have a lush pudding.

3. The Healthier One:

Honey cake is right at the top of the tooth rotting hall of fame when it comes to Jewish festival bakes. GBBO contestant Stacey Hart has devoted her time to coming up with lower sugar versions of her favourites. This refined sugar-free cake is packed with ginger and mixed spice as well as protein-packed almonds, and will definitely start your New Year in a healthy way.

4. The Instant One:

Most honey cakes are better after a few days. The flavours develop and the texture softens into sticky perfection. Michelle Eshkeri — of Margot Bakery in East Finchley — came up with a spelt flour-based version that is good to go on the day you bake. So if you're short on time — click here.
