Nathan Sollosi helped the Redbridge B university brigade sign off in style as they registered a 2-1 win at Camden.
In what was an emotionally charged day for Redbridge boss Jon Jacobs, his wonder kids delivered a perfect way to finish their first and last game of the season.
Camden took the early initiative - bigger and more powerful and seemingly more used to the slow-running conditions of of Hatfield’s newly-laid 3G pitch.
The game settled down and Redbridge were denied in one of their first, fast, counter-attacks Scott with Oldstein crossing for the on rushing Chernoff who was denied by the keeper.
The match seemed to turn on a controversial decision, with the ref over-ruling the linesman's flag and awarding a goal from a clever move by Rob Hershkorn for Camden.
Half-time came and Redbridge made a change, with Adam Goldman introduced on the right. It was from a corner taken by him almost immediately after the restart that Young Player of the Year Sollosi rose and and unchallenged , buried the ball in the corner for the equaliser.
Pressure was beginning to tell and Redbridge had taken over this match, the midfield of Camden out on their feet, chasing shadows in keeping up with the Sollosi boys and RJC's counter attack and movement.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw, with Kemp in the Redbridge goal making a fine save to stop Camden retaking the lead.
Chances came and went for both teams and Camden looked particularly threatening as now Redbridge tired . There was a few minutes left on the clock when Matt Niman picked up the ball on the left, found the feet of Sollosi and with one touch out of his feet, he buried the ball in the corner for his second and what turned out to be the winning goal.
There was still time for chances at both ends, with Daniel Garfinkle unable to find the finish when one-on-one with the keeper. There were match-saving tackles from Goldman and Jordan Sapler, but the ref finally blew his whistle on what was an excellent and evenly matched game where the class of Sollosi settled it in the end.
RJC boss Jon Jacobs told JC Sport: "We now know what we will be up against this season - it is going to be really tough but all I can ask is that they leave nothing on the pitch at the end of 90 minutes."
Camden's Max Saunders told JC Sport: "We're very disappointed to come away from the game without any points. We dominated the majority of the game, missing three clear-cut chances, as well as a host of half chances. We really should have scored more than one and at the very least got a point from this game.
"However, as the game reached the last 10 minutes or so, our lack of fitness - worryingly at this stage of the season - began to show, especially in comparison to Redbridge’s young, strong and energetic midfield. This resulted in us conceding a sloppy and completely avoidable goal in the dying minutes to fall behind and ultimately lose the game. A massively frustrating day for us.
"We will bounce back from this and will be ordering the squad members to work extra hard on their fitness, as we remain confident that, provided we all reach the required level as soon as possible, we will be up there fighting for the title come the end of the season."
