Virgin Holidays has expanded its range of Caribbean holidays adding two new islands, and launching its first “Experiences” tours in the region.
The new holidays, to Anguilla and to St Kitts & Nevis, with its unusual Jewish heritage, mean the tour operator now has 14 different Caribbean destinations in its collection.
There are plenty of temptations elsewhere too with the new Caribbean Experiences — such as Havana Rum & Cigars tour in Cuba or spices, chocolate and rum on the Tutti Frutti Tour in Grenada.
Israeli Style
The first exhibition showcasing Israeli fashion design is running at The Israel Museum until April 2019, as part of the Jerusalem museum’s celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel.
Featuring sketches, photography and clothing, the exhibition covers designs from the late 19th century through to contemporary designers, looking at the way religious and national symbolism, as well as Israel’s landscapes and different traditions have influenced fashion.
In total, more than 150 outfits will go on display, split into four themed sections.
Hawaii sunscreen ban
Hawaii has become the first US state to ban the sale of sun creams which can harm coral reefs, in an attempt to help preserve its marine attractions.
All sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been shown to have a harmful impact on underwater ecosystems, will be banned from January 1, 2021.
Oxybenzone, which is found particularly in spray-on formulas, contributes to coral bleaching and can lead to young coral becoming deformed with research estimating that up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen is deposited into the world’s oceans every year.
Several Mexican reserves and marina parks, including on the Riviera Maya and Cozumel, have already banned non-biodegradable sunscreen.
