articlemain

The world-leading scientists at Kew are heading out of the lab and back into the Gardens again on July 20-21, for the fourth Kew Science Festival including interactive experiments, expert talks and tours.

Visitors can see how seeds are conserved in the Cryo corner using liquid nitrogen, as well as looking inside a bumblebee colony and matching honey to different plants.

There’s also the opportunity to go behind the scenes in the Tropical nursery and enjoy Gastronaut, a live show about food and science, featuring bizarre plant biology and explosive chemistry.

Entry to Kew costs £16.50 for adults, £4.50 for children, including festival events.

Costa Rica comes to Cornwall

Cornwall’s Eden Project is enjoying a taste of tropical Costa Rica this month, with jungle-themed activities on May 18-19 as part of the Costa Rica Festival.

Aiming to promote sustainable tourism and conservation, as well as celebrating the country’s natural treasures, the weekend-long event will also include an exhibit of over 500 orchids, a treasure trail for families and a workshop on how volcanoes help support Costa Rica’s wildlife.

Entry costs £28.50 for adults, £15 for children over five, with 10% discounts for tickets bought online.

Manchester’s new high-tech football tour

Manchester City Football Club has announced the launch of a new stadium tour as the club celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

The new Manchester City Stadium Tour promises to give fans the most immersive tour experience in football, while also guiding them through the Club’s history and heritage up to the present day.

Using technology to enhance the experience, the tour includes 3D holographic content, augmented reality and a 360-degree cinema screen — the first of its kind in the Premier League.

Tours cost from £25, book at tickets.mancity.com

Sleep on the beach

The Bournemouth Beach Lodges have opened nine more beach huts, allowing more visitors to sleep within a stone’s throw of the waves. There’s now a total of 25 beach huts to book, sleeping up to four adults and two children, all with their own kitchen, private decking and WiFi.

Prices start from £295 for a four-night stay, with breaks starting on a Monday or Friday throughout the year.
