Jamie Wimborne made a triumphant start to the new road season with two victories.

Competing for Cycle Team Onform, Wimborne, 19, recently completed his preparations with an intense winter training programme, and he attacked from the start in the Full Gas Cycling Winter Circuit Series at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit. A stunning effort resulted in a fine solo win.

A more apt name for his team would be hard to find as this race was about one man and one man only. Some very early skirmishes came to nothing but Wimborne, who is currently studying full-time at university, had also learned well from previous situations and saw the chance to establish an early breakaway.

He may not have banked on doing it alone but he was not to be deterred and drove the race hard from his position at the front. He gave the maximum of respect to those chasing so there could be no way through for his rivals.

In finishing a full minute and a half in front of the next rider, Wimborne took a fine win for him and his team.

He later finished fourth in the Northants CRA Spring Handicap round one in Naseby and followed it up with another fine win, this time near Cambridge in the Ike Saul Memorial Rae over 65 miles.

Wimborne attacked the race early and took three breakaway companions on his journey. With harsh winds disrupting any rhythm in the peloton, attempts to bridge were thwarted. With 27km to the finish, Wimborne accelerated to secure the win and nobody could match his effort.

He is now in his first year at Warwick University studying Modern Languages & Economics, and is one of their Scholarship Athletes for 2018/19 for his cycling.
