Unbeaten light-welterweight Dmitriy Salita, 26 has been installed as No. 1 contender for Andrea Kotelnik’s WBA world title.
The pair were due to meet last year but Kotelnik twice pulled out. He will now have to face Salita or risk being stripped of his title.
While he waits for his title opportunity, Salita will take a warm-up fight against a still-to-be-named opponent at the Aviator Complex in Brooklyn on April 2. “I am thrilled to get back in the ring and excited about getting a title shot soon,” he said.
Yuri Foreman, 28, is also in line for a world title bout. The light-middleweight is on the short list to challenge WBA champion Daniel Santos in New York in June.
