Dmitriy Salita's dream of fighting for a world title is set to become a reality after he was named as challenger to WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik on November 8.

Team Salita have revealed that the fight has been agreed as support to the showdown between world light-heavyweight supremo Joe Calzaghe and 39-year-old modern-day American legend Roy Jones Jnr at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The venue will effectively hand home advantage to the 26-year-old unbeaten Jewish fighter over his fellow Ukraine-born opponent as Salita has been a long-term Brooklyn resident after moving to the USA from his home country as a youngster.

Salita had already signed up to box on the Calzaghe-Jones bill in his first appearance at the world famous venue since his greatest success as an amateur when he won a Golden Gloves title there in 2001. But the news that he will be contesting a world title is a real bonus.

The fight is subject to Kotelnik successfully negotiating the first defence of the title he won from Welshman Gavin Rees in March.

But Salita, who has a draw as the solitary blemish on his 29-fight undefeated record, is clearly not expecting any upsets and the statement from his team added: "Dmitriy is looking forward to this highly-anticipated event."
