Just a week after claiming the Champion’s jersey in a thrilling sprint finish, Israeli cyclist Guy Sagiv was signed by the professional Cycling Academy Team, boosting its international roster of under-23 champions.
Sagiv, 20, joins the other recent signing of the Spanish Cup racing series to further strengthen the team.
"We have been following and tracking Guy’s development in his team, City Cycling Club, for a very long time now — long before his recent victory,” said Academy manager Ran Margaliot.
"He has impressed us as a highly motivated and good all-round performer, and I am confident that he will make the best out of this opportunity and further develop."
Academy has offered Sagiv a stagiaire (intern) contract but he will be able to participate in races as any other rider in the team, starting at the beginning of August.
"I am very excited and will do everything to justify the trust and take a step up,” said Sagiv.
"I know it will be extremely hard but I am ready to put in all the work needed for it. For me it’s the greatest chance to fulfil my goal to get as far as possible in this sport."
Sagiv will join Academy in its special training camp in Livigno in the Italian Alps starting this weekend.
City Cycling Club team manager Gal Tsachor said: “The entire team is delighted for Sagiv. It’s a great and proud moment for us and for him."
Sagiv is serving in the IDF as a soldier in mandatory service but he will be allowed to travel, train and race for the Team.
