Seventeen year-old Yshai Oliel headed home to Israel after his second Junior Wimbledon having illustrated his notable tennis potential.
However Olieli, ranked 13, revealed that he would not return again next year as a Junior.
“When I come back I only want to play in the men’s draw,” said Oliel, who takes his inspiration from Rafael Nadal.
The Israeli was knocked out of the boy’s singles in the second round by Matteo Martineau of France.
6-3,6-76-2.
Martineau, with Australian Blake Ellis, then ended his successful doubles run with American partner Andrew Fenty in the quarter-finals 6-3 6-2.
“Yes I am disappointed, but they played great with great volleys. They deserved to win,” said Oliel.
Yet having proved he can win matches on grass, the left-hander retains positive memories of Wimbledon 2017.
He said: “I leave with great feelings and I learned a lot. I saw the best players in the world. I watched how they practised and warmed up and I will keep working hard so that one day I can be among them.”
