THESE were the highlights from day one of action at the Maccabiah Games

LAURENCE MYERS was left with mixed emotions after Team GB's Under-18 Futsal side began their campaign with a creditable 2-2 draw with Israel.

The highly-fancied hosts were given a real scare when Ben Rosen and Jamie Myers twice put GB ahead.

But a late free-kick pegged Myers' men back.

Manager Myers said: "I would certainly have taken this result at the start of the day. Israel are a very good team and are fancied to win gold.

"But we gave everything and on another day we could have won. That would have been a dream start for us. It wasn't to be but we can take a lot of confidence from this opening performance and result."

Teenage goalkeeper James Harpin caught the eye with a string of fine saves in a man-of-the match display.

FOOTBALL
Jamie Green’s deadly double was not enough to get his side’s campaign off to a winning start in the 2-2 draw with Canada.

Green struck twice, including a penalty, but a late-free kick saw them pegged back.

The men's open team also took a share of the spoils after being held 1-1 by Australia.

MARC REINGOLD joined forces with his sons to help Team GB’s Open Cricket side seal an 85-run win over Israel.

Adam Brand’s side were toiling at 15-4 in the sweltering heat.

But Reingold (87) ensured they would not wilt as he combined with Brand (51) to help GB reach 187-9 off their 50 overs.

Fast bowler Steven then weighed in with three wickets with Grant, his wicket-keeping brother, taking four scalps as Israel were skittled out for 102.

“We showed great character to fightback in difficult conditions,” said Brand.

Team GB are next in action on Friday when they face South Africa.
