Maccabi Masters review: April 19

articlemain

This year’s Nathan Horwitz MMFL Division 2 Cup final will not – as has been the tradition – feature EDRS Stonegrove, after they were defeated in a closely-fought semi-final against Maccabi London Lions.

A solitary strike from Michael Abraham was all that separated the teams.

If goals were in short supply in the Cup, however, the day’s League games certainly made up for them!

In the Maccabi Masters League Division 1, newly-crowned champions North London Raiders and Brady Maccabi shared four of them.

Raiders stormed into a 2-0 lead at the interval via Andy Bloom and Richard Sacks, but Brady rallied superbly in the second half, with Adam Gishen and Josh Burns cementing a point.

There was five-star entertainment at the Hive as Scrabble Harmen beat Faithfold 7-5. Scrabble stormed into a 3-0 lead, but Faithfold, inspired by a hat-trick from Ben Lewis and a brace from Danny Myers, hauled themselves back into the game, with the score 5-5 at one point.

Paul Stein (2), Andrew Binstock (2), Steven Moss, Serge Cowan and Paul Doctors netted for Scrabble.

But the top-scorers were Chigwell Athletic, with five-goal hero Steve Summers leading the way as they crushed Waldaf Town 9-3. Mark Conway (2), Daniel Castle and Glenn Davis completed the rout.
