AUBREY CUP LAST 32
BROADFIELDS 1 LONDON LIONS 3
A deadly double from Josh Kennet helped London Lions progressed through to the last 16 of the Aubrey Cup after a tricky away tie at Broadfields.
Playing on a difficult surface against physical opponents, Lions had to be at their most determined to make it through to the Herts County League Cup – a trophy the club has yet to win.
Josh Kennet was in inspired form, and his dipping free-kick from 20 yards angled beyond the home goalkeeper to give Lions a first-half lead.
David Myers in the Lions goal had to be at his best to repel the aerial threat from Broadfields.
It took until after half time to get a deserved second, when Charlie Kasler and Kennet combined brilliantly to set up top-scorer James Gershfield to fire in for 2-0.
Broadfields weren’t done however, and they pulled one back with 10 minutes to go after Jake Rinsler conceded a penalty; but it was left to Kennet to cap the victory with a spectacular goal when he caught the Broadfields ‘keeper out of his ground, lobbing him from 45 yards to seal the win.
