INTER TEL AVIV 3 MODI'IN 0
Inter Tel Aviv climbed the table with a comprehensive victory over Modi'in.
They produced a strong performance, returning to winning ways following the narrow defeat against league leaders Ra’anana last Saturday.
The previous fixture between these two saw Inter come from 2-1 down to win 3-2, in what was their first-ever win in the Olim League. This time round though, it was a much more straightforward affair.
Despite missing a few players, Inter set out with a strong side and started the game well in what were horrendous conditions throughout. The wet weather affected Inter’s usual slick passing style of football, but they still dominated from the start.
Inter’s first goal came on the half an hour mark, with top scorer Manu Schultz beating the offside trap before firing home.
The home side’s lead was doubled just 10 minutes later, when once again, Modi’in’s backline was broken through, this time by David Schumann, who squared the ball to the returning Airton Manuel who slotted into the open net.
Modi’in had previously come from 3-0 down to draw with Ra’anana so they didn’t lack belief as the second half got underway. However, a third Inter goal killed the game, with Gav Hill slotting into the bottom corner.
To Modi’in’s credit they kept going until the end, but Inter’s defence was on top form all night, with makeshift left-back Craig Smitheram in particular solid throughout. Inter’s keeper Sam Friedman characteristically make difficult saves look simple to earn himself and the defence a clean sheet.
The win gives Inter faint title ambitions, but they are waiting on other results to go their way if they are to end their first season in the Olim League on top.
